Back from the break....

I've just checked but it has been over a year since I last blogged on this site. I'm amazed I remembered my password!

So why are the Richards family back? 3 reasons I think - first, I picked up a book in Plettenberg Bay on a recent family holiday called "A Wiltshire Diary" written by a Chippenham vicar in the 1870s (http://www.penguin.co.uk/nf/Book/BookDisplay/0,,9780141191010,00.html) which reminded me that the concept of a blog has been around for ages and is not just a new phenomenon. Of course, it was called a diary then, not a blog. The back cover of the book talks about it as "heartfelt, humorous and reflective"; I can't promise this one is the first two, but I am drawn to a blog being more reflective than just a spontaneous Facebook post. Whether it is for my benefit and posterity, more than for the interest of others, who knows but it probably doesn't matter; diaries were generally private things anyway, though they didn't have the tools of technology to share their musings either.

Second, I think it's therapeutic to reflect on your day/week and helps enforce some consistency and discipline in one's life which is sometimes difficult to achieve in today's fast paced life.

Lastly, I'm just trying out the technology and seeing where it takes me.

Anyway, here we go again.
